Thailand 11/2004

Linden and I had a vacation coming. A big one. We had talked about going to Thailand for some time. The main reason for our going is that my father lives there, and I wanted to visit him. For one reason or another we had to put off our trip, but we finally made it over.

The flight there is quite taxing (~20 hours), and the jet lag can be really annoying (we kept on waking up spontaneously at 4:00am for quite some time). We started our trip in Bangkok, then went to Chiang Mai to visit my Dad, then off to Lampang (really, just outside the town) to visit the Elephant Conservation Center. Our trip ended on Ko Lanta, a small island off the western coast of Thailand's southern peninsula. We stayed at the beautiful Sri Lanta resort.

Our favorite parts of the trip were probably the elephant center and the Sri Lanta, with Chiang Mai coming in second. Surprisingly, Bangkok was our least favorite part of the trip. While there were interesting and beautiful parts of the city, coming from NY, it was perhaps too reminiscent of our Chinatown to feel exotic. That said, it's worth a visit, though 3 days is probably enough.
