St. Peter Castle

The castle juts out into the center of Bodrum's 2 harbors. Western texts say the castle was built to provide refuge to Christians and increase their influence over the west coast of Asia during the Crusades. Turks says they granted permission to the Knights Hospitaler to build an outpost for medical care and military use. Either way, construction began in the early 1400's. Today the Underwater Archaeology Museum is housed inside.
